Pediatric Physical Therapy
Pediatric physical therapy (PT) incorporates a variety of treatments to help build strength, improve movement, and strengthen gross motor skills needed to complete daily activities.
Doctors may recommend pediatric PT if a child is 0-18 years old and is diagnosed with one of the following:
- Poor Balance and/or Coordination
- Genetic Disorders
- Cerebral Palsy
- CVA (stroke)
- Gross Motor Delays (i.e. crawling, walking, etc.)
- TBI – Traumatic Brain Injury
- Torticollis
- Orthopedic disabilities
- Toe Walking
- Muscle diseases

Physical Therapists (PTs) might guide kids through:
- Developmental activities such as crawling and walking
- Exercises to build strength
- Flexibility exercises to increase range of motion
- Balance and coordination activities
- Adaptive play
- Sensory integration techniques
A PT evaluation might also include:
- Measuring the child’s flexibility and strength
- Analyzing the way the child walks and runs (a child’s gait)
- Identifying potential and existing problems
- Consulting with other medical personnel regarding the child’s needs
- Determining a child’s age equivalency through tests
- Providing instructions for home exercise programs
