The Twin Cities Mayor’s Committee on Disabilities Awards Dinner

July 17th, a few of us from the West Monroe clinic attended the Twin Cities Mayors’ Committee on Disabilities Awards dinner. We had several different members of our MMPT family receive awards, so of course, we had to represent and cheer them on!

Each year, this committee gives out awards and scholarships to acknowledge and support those in our community that have made a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Our first congratulations goes out to one of our patients, Kirk Burnley, who was selected to receive the Sam and Hilda Yeager Memorial scholarship. We have been working with Kirk for the past couple of years and he is such an amazing guy! We are so proud of you, Kirk, for working so hard and being a great part of our team.

Kirk’s family was also recognized by the committee and received The Family Award. This award is given each year to a family who is an outstanding example of support, love and encouragement for a disabled family member. His father, Kevin Burnley, his mother, Becky DeMoss, and their families, are completely dedicated to helping Kirk reach his full potential. When they come into our clinic, they are always full of hope and shining with positivity. Thanks to all of Kirk’s family for all that you do!

One of our interns, Brooke Procell, also received a scholarship. Brooke was awarded a Kinesiology Scholarship from LA Tech University. She will be getting her undergraduate degree this fall before beginning her masters program for Physical Therapy. We have loved having her on board for the past few weeks and we know she will go far! (Maybe not on a tricycle, but in life…)
